Meet Kristen

I’m Kristen Strong, and I thank you for visiting me here at my place, Chasing Blue Skies. It’s a name that describes my sanguine personality well. From my childhood pasture-playing days in Oklahoma to my grown-up wanderings with my Air Force man, looking skyward has always encouraged me. The blue skies may change with the landscape, but the fresh air hope I find in looking up does not.

Why do I ‘Chase Blue Skies?’ Because when I do, I discover God. Come rain or shine, I see His presence. And in seeing His mark on the everyday, I find fresh air.

In these wide open spaces, I hope you do too.

I’ve been married to my man, David, for 17 years. David is in the Air Force, which means our whole family serves. I write about military life here and there, including this article on how to love on your military neighbors and friends.

David and I have 3 crazy talented and hilarious children, two of which are thirteen year old twin boys. They are different as night and day, really just brothers born at the same time. We also have a doe-eyed daughter who is a beautiful nine. She underwent a scary surgery recently, and we are thankful to be on the other side of her recovery. Our family has lived in Oklahoma, Ohio {twice}, New Mexico, Hawaii, and we now have our horses hitched in Rocky Mountain country of Colorado. The blue skies here are incredible, and I hope we can drink them in for a good long while.

I am a monthly contributor to (in)courage, the blog of DaySpring. This beautiful community serves up faith-filled encouragement that will inspire you heart and soul. It *is* home for the hearts of women and has been my very favorite blog since well before I joined the posse of writers.

I also write about friendship, mostly because I’ve seen every friendship season under the sun. As a military wife, I’ve made friends easily and not so easily. Every move brings a new friendship landscape. Other friendship posts include:

One more thing: On Thursdays, folks around here have fun with surprises! That is, each person takes the opportunity to write about a specific surprise God arranged just for her and shares how that surprise increased her faith in some way.

God is full of surprises, and out of the blue helps us look expectantly for them and live our lives exploring them.
